The "Perfect" Job

What is the "perfect" job?

I want to work in a team environment doing Oracle database administration coupled with logical design, participation in requirements gathering, application design and PL/SQL programming.

I want to expand my knowledge and skills.  I want to learn more about networking, TCP/IP, SQL*Net, TNS, local area networks and the internet. I want to learn more about Operating Systems and hardware.  I want to learn more about new Oracle database products, performance monitoring and tuning products.  I want to learn about database webservers.

The physical environment should be clean, light and quiet. It should provide maximum privacy and avoid distractions, such as people walking by in the hallway. A private walled office with a door has a high value.  Because my work requires looking at a computer screen most of the day, the lighting should be reduced above and behind the computer screen. Because my work requires using the computer keyboard most of the day, the seating and work area should be comfortable.

The commute to work should be less than 40 minutes.  There should be free parking available within a 5-minute walk from the office. Covered parking has a high value.

There are a couple major detractions that some companies have tried to implement. Invasion of personal privacy is particularly distasteful.  Choice limiting agreements make it difficult to work for a company "just because I want to".
